Kaapsehoop.net is an independent heritage initiative dedicated to recording the history, people, and cultural landscape of Kaapsehoop and the wider De Kaap region. It is the work of families who have called the mountain home for generations — offered in the belief that a place is only as well remembered as the record it leaves behind.

The site is a structured digital archive, drawing together historical research, archival material, photographs, cemetery records, and community memory so that the story of this small mountain settlement is not lost to time. That record keeps growing — through the self-guided heritage trail, the digital mapping of the historical cemetery, and the Kaapsehoop biodiversity project, which sets the village’s story within the living landscape of the escarpment.

The work draws on archival documents, historical publications, family papers, and local oral history, and the archive is expanded as new material comes to light. Everything here is shared for historical, educational, and heritage purposes — to deepen understanding of this corner of South Africa’s past and to support responsible heritage awareness and conservation.

Kaapsehoop.net does not promote or support prospecting, mining, or any land use beyond the interpretation and preservation of heritage. The purpose is simple: to keep the mountain’s story, and to pass it on to those who come after.
